I was fortunate to be assigned to shoot the cover Feb/Mar 2013 issue of the Atlantic Current Magazine, which will be my third cover in a row with them.
Below are a handful of other images and assignments that were ran in the latest issue including FAU baseball, paddleboarding and an article on local surfer Codi Monroy!
National Geographic picking up one of my Loggerhead Sea Turtle shots as their photo of the day on their homepage on Jan 6, 2013. You can purchase this print and many others on my fine art site: www.benjhicks.com
A new mag has emerged in South Florida called The Atlantic Current. Many images of mine were chosen for the inside of the mag including the cover. Here are some screen shots…
This past weekend I got to ride some really nice trail and hit a few stunts along the way. Some of the boys put on a show for the crowd too. Unfortunately Kyle (the sequence drop) had to be airlifted away and is still in the hospital attempting the 20ft drop. Here are a few shots from the trip.
Like every other person in Florida, I took my guns out for the shuttle. Shooting with a Canon 1ds mark2 camera 300 2.8 IS lens, 2x and 1.4 ext here is what I got. Essentially its a 1092mm set-up w/ f/5.6, 1/13, iso 640,
This weekend I started off by shooting Flogging Molly, one of my favorite tunes to rock when I am riding. They were opened up by Against Me, Dub Trio, and the Aggrolites. The rest can be viewed at www.southflorida.metromix.com
Check out southflorida.metromix.com for all my music photos including the lastest from The Postmarks and coming soon Flogging Molly, Ultra Music Festival, Sunfest and more.
This past week I shot the local band The Postmarks for Metromix. Respectable Street, where the show took place, was an absolute horrible lighting situation to try and get photos! Here are a couple…. and the rest can be seen here at southflorida.metromix.com
Wednesday morning we charged it early to get some good light with the rising swell hitting our coast. Meeting up with Cheyne Cottrell, his buddy Will Tant, Matt Oberman, Wesley Desouza, and Tahitian Hira Teriinatoofa, we caught the quick swell window. On the beach it was about 40 degrees, which was not exactly was I am used to. It was a beutiful day! All images copyright © 2009 Ben Hicks
Last night I shot Alejandro Escovedo for Metromix.com at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdal, Florida. It was a really mellow show with great vibes with lots of elbow room for me to work with. You can find them published here. Enjoy!
Last night I shot the Nightmere before Christmas Chopper Ride Toy Run in West Palm Beach,FL. There were 164 riders that turned out for the event. They can be seen here on Metromix.
Last week a few of the stars aligned and South Florida actually got good. I headed up to search with Wes and Matt, meeting up with rest of the state of south fl to find some prestine conditions to shoot in. I really wanted to shoot water but the currents just weren’t right. Two sessions throughout the day provided for some great shots not to mention shooting some of the best in Florida. Here are a bunch and please no stealing the images with out contacting me first. Thanks!
As I was originally suppose to shoot the shuttle from Cape Canaveral, I got really sick on thurs and ended up not going last night. Instead I mounted my 1ds mark2 with my 300 and 1.4ext and go this image of the shuttle blasting off…
This week I covered the 5th year anniversary of Choppernite in West Palm Beach, FL. The ride always carries a theme and the theme this year was Hairband nite, from the 80′s music era. It always a great place to find the freaks! Run by the freakbike nation West Palm Chapter it attracted almost 250 riders this year. The images were shot for Metromix / Sun-Sentinel. You can view the gallery here.
Thanks to one of the coolest producers that I have worked with, I was set up to cover Rise Against in Pompano Beach, FL with Alkaline Trio, Thrice and the Gaslight Anthem. You can view the gallery here at Sun-Sentinel / southflorida.metromix.com . I pulled some strings and got Steph in as well for one of her favorites… Alkaline Trio. Rise Against didnt disappoint. Another weird thing as well, ran into some kiddies from my hometown of Venice. They recognized me as I was dashing across the parking lot in the dark, must be I am getting a little higher status? Must be Venice knows who rocks the hardest.
Last night I was part of a blood bath. NO seriously, Gwar performed at Revolution and it was a game of duck and dodge to stay away from there spraying “blood” guns. From outrageous costumes to literally ripping apart John McCain it was one of the more interesting music assignments I have had. See more here.
